David Deutsch explains Optimism

Physicist David Deutsch gave a long interview about his philosophy of science and life.

He explains how he is a big advocate of Karl Popper's philosophy. I call it negativism. Popper wrote essays against positivism, and is most famous for falsificationism.

The idea is that we do not know that anything is true. We only know that things are false. So we do not really believe in anything, except that many ideas have been rejected.

He goes on to explain how he believes in optimism over pessimism.

He is a big advocate of many-worlds theory, but did not discuss it. I do not see how he can reconcile it with all the other stuff he says. It is too wacky. It is hard to believe that Popper or any of his followers would believe in it.

There are a lot of people who regard Deutsch as a wise explainer of general scientific ideas, but I do not see it. It is all bonkers.
